These components, made at the Universities of Oxford, Reading, and Cardiff, are spares for NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). As part of LRO, identical pieces to these are on board the Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment and are currently orbiting the Moon. This instrument has already helped us to make new maps of lunar surface temperature, compositions, and roughness for future missions.
